"A couple of months ago, chef Niccolo Leone left Mangarosa, the Brazilian-Italian restaurant in North Beach, citing creative differences with the owners.

These days, he's consulting with Keith Cochrane and David Kiely, the new owners of Cafe Mars (798 Brannan St., at Seventh Street) in San Francisco and overseeing the cafe's kitchen, which now includes pizzas on the mostly American menu.

Cochrane and Kiely, took over the SoMa restaurant last October and completely remodeled it. Jenny Kiely, David's wife, is the general manager.

Cafe Mars is open Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner, and brunch on Sunday."

"Rotating artwork hangs above a black banquette running the length of the left wall; across from it, the bar offers a handful of tap beers and specialty cocktails, like James' Giant Peach (fruit-flavored vodka, citrus essence, fresh lemon and lime) and an Oatmeal Cookie (Bailey's, butterscotch liqueur, Goldschlager). A billiards table takes center stage in the back room, which connects to an outdoor patio providing a place to smoke and a second bar (on select nights)."
